You’ve booked in for your first remedial massage and you’re wondering what you’re in for. Will it be agonising? When can you get back to the gym? Here’s the low down on what you can expect from a remedial massage treatment.
A helping hand
The human body has an incredible ability to heal itself, but sometimes it needs a helping hand. Remedial massage provides just that.
Remedial massage uses a range of techniques to address issues such as aches, pains, sports injuries and headaches. Techniques may include deep-tissue massage, trigger-point therapy, myofascial release, cupping, dry needling and more.
What’s involved?
Prior to your treatment, your massage therapist will want to know whether you have any specific concerns. Please be candid and clear. During the assessment, they may use different techniques to assess what needs to be done.
If you have a particular injury, the therapist may ask about any referred pain, away from the injury itself. They will then tailor the treatment to your needs.
You can specify whether you would prefer your remedial massage to be firm or a little more gentle. The remedial massage or myotherapist will also be able to provide insight about the best approach needed for your condition. If the pressure is too strong, please let the therapist know.
What can remedial massage treat?
We have achieved incredible results with a range of afflictions, including:
- Sports injuries
- Muscle tightness and pain
- Arthritis
- Frozen shoulder
- Tennis elbow
- Neck pain
- Back pain
- Scoliosis
- Headaches
- Forward head carriage.
How you can help
Speak to your massage therapist or myotherapist about the kinds of stretches or exercises you can do in order to improve any muscular conditions. Also, make sure you drink plenty of water after the treatment and avoid exercise for 24 hours. You may feel off after the treatment, but rest assured this is completely normal. It means your body is busy trying to flush out the toxins released during the treatment.
